Description

This fortress had guarded against foreign invaders since 1834, but only saw combat during the Civil War in November of 1861 and again in January of 1862. The patch depicts Bastion D, which was damaged in an explosion in 1899 when fire reached a magazine containing 8,000 pounds of black powder.
