Over 2 million years old, the area that is now Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park has been alive with ecological diversity and incredible rock walls. President Herbert Hoover established the area as a national monument in 1933 to preserve ”the spectacular gorges and additional features of scenic, scientific, and educational interest.” Our Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP Traveler Pin features an image of the rock walls.
