Fort Pulaski celebrates its 100th anniversary as a National Monument in 2024. In the 19th century Fort Pulaski was among the many masonry fortifications that protected the coasts from oversea enemies. However, during the Civil War and advancement in technology made these forts less efficient, the Union Army used rifle cannons to attack the fort leading to a Confederate surrender.
