Kamehameha: The Rise of a King is a work of historical fiction about Kame-hameha, the great hero of Hawaii. The stories highlight people, places, and events that shaped Kamehameha’s life and led him to become Kana`iaupuni, the Conqueror of the Islands. Signs and prophecies had predicted Kame-hameha’s rise to power, but there was also fierce resistance to his leadership. Kamehameha: The Rise of a King shows how Kamehameha overcame opposition and reached his destiny as father of the Hawaiian nation.
Chapters one through six of this book were previously available as individual volumes in the Kana`iaupuni Series.
David Kawika Eyre is a lifelong educator who served as a high school Hawaiian language teacher at Kame-hameha Schools Kapalama for twenty-three years.
Brook Kapukuniahi Parker is a Na-tive Hawaiian artist from Kahaluu, Oahu. An accomplished illustrator and public speaker, Brook’s recent works include commissions from the University of Hawaii and Disney’s Au-lani Resort.
