Description
Mechanical pencils rule. But, if you’ve ever used one – you know how it goes. You start out great, but as you use the pencil more and more, the lead wears down on one side, forming a weird-shaped tip. Each time you put the lead to the page you end up with a different thickness of lead, depending on how you hold the pencil. This can cause dramatic and unsightly variations in line thickness as you write or draw.

We know now that you think about it, it does dive you a little nuts. Well… the smart people over at Mitsubishi have solved this problem you didn’t even realize you had!

The Kuru Toga uses an ingenious lead rotation mechanism that continually rotates the pencil lead as you write. A spring-loaded clutch twists the lead incrementally every time you lift the pencil from the paper. This allows a uniform wearing of the lead to create a conical tip shape that provides a fine, consistent line. Woah – a self-sharpening pencil? Yup.
