Wrangell-St. Elias National Park is the largest park in the United States at 13.2 million acres. Ernest Gruening, Director of US Territories in 1938, wrote ”It is my unqualified view that this is the finest scenery that I have ever been privileged to see.” In 1980, the area gained national park status.
